Museum Access: Through the Eco-Corridor is a site-specific art project that connects the two entrances of Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art(GMoMA) located in Hwarang Park. The project, which takes a motif from the museum used as a shortcut for those who take a walk, features installations, performances and audience participatory programs, connecting the inside and outside of the museum building with a hope that the museum will function as an “eco-corridor” to link the two disconnected spaces.
This collaborative project by the two public museums - Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art(GMoMA) and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art(MMCA) - aims to share the common goals of relating to and communicating with the public. In this regard, an attempt to find a “museum access” is in line with what the two museums commonly pursue. It also intends to create an ecological path that everyone can access freely, considering the functions of a museum as a passage and focusing on its environmental context, architectural structure or space.
The project is expected to expand our perception of the world in which different species live together and to lower hierarchy and guard in our minds. Furthermore, we hope a museum will be an important place for empathy and communication in our society, as the eco-corridor has become part of our environment by connecting isolated habitats of animals.
